When Marty was writing this song I was on tour with him and other members of the Opry.I was 15 and a member of the Stoney Mountain Cloggers square dance team. One afternoon Marty came to Don Gibson's room where we were watching a ballgame on tv and played the song for Don and Ferlin Husky asking what they thought. They both agreed it was a great song and when he asked my opinion,I said I thought it was too long....so much for my expertise and knowledge...Hey I was 15 and liked R&R....lol

Lot of 50ies and 60ies songs are about people who are dying. Strange....

This is not only a great classic but also an unusual song for this reason; the words are written in first person by the cowboy who died at the end!

I love this song so much so it is very cool that someone would name their daughter after Felina in this song.

I think it was the gentleman from Merritt Street who left you the helpful hint - back before you created this present account.

Hey! I think it was my site (I'm serious). Spelled Jimmie's name wrong, or had typos in it (see Kisses Sweeter Than Wine) ... I have never learned not to make videos in the wee small hours of the morning when I need toothpicks to hold my eyes open and my brain is on auto-pilot. |
