Just before he is about to be shot and killed in cold-blood by William Munny (Clint Eastwood) in the film, "Unforgiven," the Sheriff (Gene Hackman), another violent and brutal man, says, "I don't deserve this,...to die like this. I was building a house." In the midst of a great modern western, certain troubling questions are presented. Is there truly a difference between "good" violent men and "bad" ones, or will they all in up in "hell" together? Can the "unforgiven" find any sort of redemption through violence and brutality. Strange paradoxes exist in the lives of such people and the world they have created. The film, "Unforgiven," is truly great for its story, directing and acting as it deglamourizes violence in a film genre known for doing the opposite.

Yeah, I think the principle of a deconstruction is lost on him...

I finally figured out HOW he won the gun fight. It just came to me while watching this just now. Every time Little Bill goes to shoot or show's how to shoot (his technique if you will) it's always straight foward right directly in front. William Money everytime he kills someone the whole movie it's at an angle. When he ducks down little bill and everyone else is at a disadvantage because they're trained to shoot straight ahead not at an angle unlike William. The second he ducks it was over.

Yep, sure did get the point of the film but it was still boring as hell slow moving until the end.

i completely disagree, Clint as the director was challenging the stereotypical, 'normal' western, he was displaying the west in it's true light, it wasn't glamorous gun fights, it was harsh place to live and people weren't one dimensional, good or evil they were just men. You obviously didn't get the point of this film.

This whole movie sucked until the end where he turned into the Clint Eastwood that we all love in his westerns
