yeah, he just is too young a director to try and make his films overtly experimental and anti-mainstream, that's why i think his experimentation in film fails. they are so inmersed in his own confused ideas that end up just being too pretentious. so i don't find him to be a great filmmaker, (an artist sure). i also think there is no need for such movements as the Dogme 95 to be written down in paper and have their own rules. reinvented cinema doesn't come with warning or anything it just happens

its fine that you dig his work cause he is very creative visually...but i stll find him overrated, and i guess my problem is that he's getting alot of attention for films that i can't find as profound as other films i have seen which get no attention, and this guy is on letterman and on magazines and hailed by critics as an Inmense Talent. while other truly brilliant filmmakers are struggling to make ends meet and don't even have their films released in the US.

Whou! At least there's something good to say about Harmony Korine: His clips are not full of "f*ck b*tch /)(&§&"-comments. ;-))But I can really understand tokeburns: I also somehow got the feeling this movies pretend to be more then they are. Something like riding on a "non-mainstream"-, "very sensitive portraied"-wave.Nevertheless I like the atmosphere and I appreciate every step in the non-mainstream-direction, may it be as placative as it is.

they're gone nowhere but right under their feet..And I never said I agreed with him on anything, or his fans, I have my own reasons why I like his work, and I consider him brilliant, but thats simply because I like what I see in his films, not what I think is behind what I see. And to be honest-I really dont want to see this film. Bottom line here, every fan sees something in his films, but that doesnt meant Harmony Korine and even his biggest fans are anywhere near being on the same page.

..no artistic intentions whatsoever..The fac that he's presented his ideas on film. Its like people who gather and fall to their knees and worhip water stains in the shape of the virgin mary..His fans are his fans and their admiration and explinations of his films do not necissarily reflect HIS, about 80 percent of them are nowhere near what he has claimed to have been expressing, because his ideas and intentions are so simple that people are looking overhead trying to catch them all the while

I'm not saying he doesnt care about what he's doing, but he himself has said he doesnt feel a part of anything that is going on in film today or ever. There are people that like what they see in his films and they appeal to them for one reason or another. If I roll around in black paint on a white canvas and get up and walk away and some beatnik calls it the most amazing peice of art he's ever seen-then thats what hes gonna say no matter what I think about it, and despite the fact that I had..

okay then if you say his films mean shit to him, what is the fucking point at all this attention this guy gets? i don't know about you but i cannot find any talent in his films, creativity sure, but no artistic value. that makes sense if you agree with his statement that his films aren't even films. but then why is he considered a brilliant filmmaker? cause these titles some people give him such as "genius of film" i think are vastly exagerated. if you agree w/this then you contradict yourself.

and its funny that you mention close minded critics, because you sound so much like them, you want so bad for there to be something to throw your logics at, your angles at, and even your art at, and he doesnt fit into that-because HE DOESNT WANT TO! Its like the saying goes, the further you run away, the more people want you back..you people just continue to howl and bark and it means nothing to him, because neither him nor his ideas have or have even claimed to have anything to do with you.

..NOTHING SYBOLIC, all there is are things he wanted to see, and if you dont appreciate the images he presents, its just not for you, its not a matter of understanding-because THERE'S NOTHING TO UNDERSTAND, his position is putting images he wants to see on film..THATS IT! He doesnt even consider the films he makes to be films...did you know he doesnt even OWN Gummo? They went and put that movie in another movie and he had no say so whatsoever-you're mistaking him for something that fits into..
