All 12 Parts of "The Phantom of the Opera" 1983 (TV): http://www.youtube.com/view_pl... on location in Budapest, this TV movie version of "The Phantom of the Opera" was released in 1983. Starring Oscar winner Maximilian Schell as Korvin/The Phantom, Emmy winner Jane Seymour as the young opera singer he teaches & loves, and Michael York as another of the young singer's admirers. Sandor Korvin (Schell), the conductor of the Budapest Opera House tutors his wife Elena (Seymour in a duel role) as Marguerite in Faust. She drowns herself after a bad review rigged by the sinister Baron Hunyadi, whose affections she spurned. When confronting the critic, Korvin gets into a fight and a fire is started. Korvin kills the critic, only to have his face burned beyond recognition with acid that falls from a shelf above. He is saved from the inferno by a rat catcher, who takes him to a lair underneath the opera. Four years later, he becomes The Phantom of the Opera, a masked figure who causes havoc among the cast. The Phantom spots Maria Gianelli (Seymour), a chorus girl who bears a remarkable resemblance to his dead wife and he tutors her each day. Maria's love interest, however, is with Michael Hartnell (York), who has taken over as director of the Opera House. Korvin then executes his plan to exact revenge on the Baron and terrorize those who stand in the way of Maria's triumph. Apologies for the poor quality. No clue why it looks that way, but several people have commented that their movie looks just as bad and the sound is even worse - at least mine sounds okay (I think)!

INcredible. I saw this ages ago in the german version and had it down as a pretty trashy version. But it is fun to watch in the english version (dubbing always messes up a movie). Thank you!

Michael York's character is a real ass in this version. Jeez, if I were Christine, I'd pick the Phantom as fast as I could!

No. There is no such scene in the book/musical. This is yet just another version/interpretation of the story - and not necessarily a true-to-the-Leroux/1910 novel!

To tell the truth, I don`t remember such moment in tha book|musical. Does anybody?

Also - I'm surprised that the Phantom/Erik didn't immediately kill Raoul, after he witnessed them...well...*ahem*...making their own type of "music"! ;-D (Afterall, Erik was/is *VERY* protective of *HIS* Christine - and I don't think he'd approve of Raoul/both doing something like this! He would probably have gone out of his mind, and killed Raoul right on the spot!)
