Hmmm, I'd say Tatsumi Fujinami was doing the 'utility cruiserweight' long before Ogawa and to far greater success. I guess if Ogawa was a lower-midcarder then I wouldn't mind him, but I find it jarring when he is presented as a badass main-eventer. It gives me flashbacks to how Ed Leslie was pushed due to being Hulk Hogan's then-best friend.

Well, Ogawa's contribution is somewhat underrated. In my mind, he was the NOAH's counterpart to Eddie Guerrero (Ogawa is not eveybody's friend though). He was one of the first Japanese cruiserweights who could generate decent matches with heavyweights, paving the way for Marufuji and Kenta just to name a couple. If you have star people like Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa in your promotion, you need a good sidekick too...

There's something about Yoshinari Ogawa that I hate. It's probably a combination of his in-ring mediocrity, his gay shades/vest/zebra stripes attire, his use of cheapshots and eye-pokes for no reason and his shitty suplex he uses as a finisher. If he wasn't Misawa's big buddy would he even be a wrestler today? (let alone a former GHC Champion!)
