The song is about a girl named Anna he met vacationing on some island. They fell in love- and realized the holiday was ending and they both had to go back to their own homes. He wanted it to keep on, but she rationalized it to the effect of an unreal scenario. He wanted it, and she couldn't handle it- And Anna faded away. (They contacted eachother some years later when he was famous- she is now married, and both her and her husband are fans of the song)Now stop making up weird comments, Bishes.

I read this a little differently...I believe it was an affair, in the sense of marriage. He leaves her in the end for her own sake, so she won't get tied up in the mistakes he's made with his life...That's why he says "And anna begins to fade away...It's chasing me away."

Hi, cassandrajean06 --- it's not a stupid question at all, because the lyric *is* very elliptical. Essentially, the singer (and the object of his desire) has suddenly realized that this could be *the* love of his life, and it frightens him, so he's trying to talk himself out of it (treat it as "just another affair", like collecting butterflys). She's scared, too, but then "Anna begins to change her mind", and *his*, too -- I hope it was a happy ending (that's the way I read it). GREAT love song! |
