No, not at all. Sony intended for its users to have the option to install Linux. Although you might want to install a larger hard drive if you haven't already.

if you download a lot from the internet, you can download files directly onto your ps3 to watch shows/dvds/etc.

we're thinking maybe with linux we can run psOne emulators and things of the sort along with making "backups" possible, which of course is an extremely illegal procedure ;)
