Lawrence Technological University was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy as one of only 20 universities in the U.S., Europe, and Canada to compete in the 2007 Solar Decathlon. Students work for two years to design, build, and operate an energy-efficient, completely solar-powered house, which will be displayed on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in 2007. The Lawrence Tech team is made up of students from Colleges of Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Management. The team's name is "ALOeTERRA," a reference to the aloe vera plant's healing powers and how sustainable design and engineering can heal the earth of the environmental damage caused by nonrenewable energy and materials.
