Here's a 1965 live concert video of the great Vaughn Monroe performing two of his many hits: "Riders in the Sky" and "Ballerina." Vaughn had his own band during the big band era, but dropped the band and became primarily a vocalist in the 1950's when the post WWII trend went from bands to singers! As "the voice of RCA" Vaughn did many of that company's record and appliance commercials, while he also recorded for the label, until the late 1950's when he went on to other labels like Dot, Jubilee, Kapp, etc. You can learn all about Vaughn Monroe at vaughnmonroesociety.org.

Not to mention later big band nostaglia of thwe 1990s complete IGNORED Vaughn. Like RUss Morgan (one of whose I persued here), Eddy Howard, Rudy Vallee and Louis Armstrong, a vocalist as much as a maestro. Of course the voice made Vaughn Monroe much more of an AUDIO presence, and I'd say that radio and records accounted as much as anything for his popularity.

Back when music was music. I miss the better, simpler times.

I never thought of this as a Dance song.

Ah, the memories this brings. I'm 70 and bought this 45 RPM and Dance Ballernia Dance and play them forever. Someone mentioned the change in lyric -- it was FAME in the recording.

I love his voice.

This was from a 1960's TV series that presented singers and bands in 30 minute presentations. The orginal is from a kinescope (film) of the show...which did appear later on a prerecorded VHS tape.

I have to repeat Fredland's question: Where did you get this? They didn't have VCR's then.
