Very good observation. Proper structure is necessary. Otherwise its fluff.

The various way's he draw's the sword allows him to do it quickly, but I notice that his wrists end up in really uncomfortable and streneous positions, how much power would he really have during the strike and what would he do if she were to change her position instead of doing simple slow swings; would he be able to maintain his balance?

If you could get within range to hit them with the tsuka you would be close enough to them to get a hit off anyway the best way of doing it is to make them break stance or knock them off balance for example if the oppenent just missed you could easily aim a kick to the stomach right at the moment of vunerablity and get them to stumble or fall to the ground either way the outcome wouldn't look good for the attacker.

But if you presue that line of thought many fights don't take place using swords anymore unless it is in a country in which firearms are difficult for civilians to maintain like the U.K. and considering the speed and acuracy in which he handles that wakazashi of his he could probably disbatch a lot of attackers as long as they do not have long range weaponry or are as skilled as he is.

He keeps his saya with the curve facing up for several reasons, one being that unless you are using a Shin Gunto your saya is made of wood and your blade will damage the inside of the saya if it rubs against the saya continsously and also upon drawing he does not need to put his sword up right by raising it as it would decrease the speed of his draw all he needs to do is bring it down which also increases the power of the strike as a pose to bringing it up in which case you go against gravity.

duels rarely occur, in the real world.

he flips it depending on which way he wants the blade to face.

since you seem knowleadgeable with kenjutsu can i ask you a question? is accelerating towards an opponent then hitting them with the tsuka a good way to stun your opponent to prepare for a cut?
