Were The Clash really a punk band? Or the last of the rock and rollers?

love this song

This song has symbolically become a milestone of rock scene and also it seems to have predicted unification of Germany and the fall of Soviet Union. The voice sounds weeping but cogent to appeal to us for peace with simple guitar play.

Now why doesn't MY guitar sound like that?

I hear no sound that links U2 to The Clash, U2released Boy about the same time The Clash was on top with punk,U2 was never a punk band, both but I dig them both and respect their talent

I could never understand why U2 always has been compared to The Clash--the dots just never connected with my I guess.
